Why travel this route
The trick with family travel in Vietnam is not doing less; it is spacing it properly. Every active morning here is followed by a slow afternoon, the longest drive is under four hours, and three of the stops are places children genuinely enjoy rather than endure.
We have run this route for families with children from six to sixteen. Bikes come in every size including tag-alongs and child seats, and the guides we assign to family trips are the ones who are good with children, which is a different skill from knowing the dates of the Nguyen dynasty.
- Cycle Hanoi's village outskirts, past markets, temples and duck ponds
- Ride the flat green valley of Mai Chau and stay in a Thai stilt house
- Two nights on Bai Tu Long Bay with kayaks, a beach barbecue and swimming off the boat
- Three nights in Hoi An: bicycles, tailors, a cooking class and the beach twenty minutes away
- Basket boats and fishing nets in the Hoi An lagoons
- Saigon's landmarks in bite-sized pieces, with plenty of ice-cream stops
- A day on the water in the delta, ending at a floating market
Where you sleep, night by night
Fourteen nights with three multi-night bases — Hanoi, Hoi An and Saigon — so you unpack properly.
| Stop | Nights | Why we stop here |
|---|---|---|
| Hanoi | 4N | A thousand-year-old capital where lake-side boulevards, shophouse alleys and street-food corners sit side by side. |
| Mai Chau | 1N | A flat green valley of Thai villages, ideal for a first day on a bicycle in Vietnam. |
| Ha Long Bay | 2N | Thousands of limestone towers rising out of jade water, best seen from a small boat on the quieter Bai Tu Long side. |
| Hoian | 3N | A lantern-lit trading port turned UNESCO town, ringed by rice fields, herb gardens and fishing hamlets. |
| HCMC | 3N | Vietnam's loudest, fastest city — colonial facades, war-history museums and an endless appetite for coffee. |
| Mekong Delta | 1N | A flat maze of channels, orchards and floating markets where daily life still happens on the water. |
