Why come here

Ha Long Bay is around 1,600 limestone islands across a bay the size of a small country, and it is genuinely one of the great landscapes of Asia. The problem is that most boats sail the same short loop, anchor in the same three coves and pass the same caves at the same hour.

Bai Tu Long is the eastern half of the same geological formation, with a fraction of the traffic and identical islands. We route every overnight cruise there, which costs nothing extra and changes the experience entirely.

When to go

October to April is the reliable season, with cool clear days from October to December and misty, atmospheric conditions in February and March. July to September is warm and good for swimming but brings storms, and the port authority closes the bay when one is forecast. If that happens we rebook or refund.

Frequently asked questions

One night or two?

One night gives you a sunset, a night at anchor and a sunrise, which is the essential experience. Two nights reaches further into Bai Tu Long and adds a second kayaking session.

Is a day trip worth it?

Not really. You spend five hours in a vehicle for four hours on the water, at the busiest time of day. If you only have one day, we would spend it in Ninh Binh instead.

What happens if the bay closes for weather?

We rebook onto other dates if your itinerary allows it, or refund the cruise portion. It happens a handful of times each year, mostly between July and September.

Are the boats comfortable?

Cabins have private bathrooms, air conditioning and windows onto the water. We use small vessels — usually under twenty cabins — because the deck space per person is what makes the difference.
